Fellowship Project & Instructional Interests

My primary goal is to develop better tools and strategies to help students interact with each other’s work.  I am looking both for techniques that would work effectively within a large lecture courses (especially an introductory general education course on Western Thought Since 1600) and those more suited to small seminars, including Sex and Society in Modern Europe and on Trials in European History.  I am particularly interested in encouraging more productive conversations outside the classroom around readings and peer editing of writing, but I am also looking for ways to develop small-scale collaborative projects.

Given current political and social issues, I am also increasingly concerned with making sure that my students really have the critical skills to assess media reports, especially those that make historical claims.
